Bullet marks

Chapter 4: The Unnumbered Unit (Part 1)

Duan Ning led his pursuit team down the mountain. There was no backup ambulance left. After putting the wounded into the police car and watching them leave, Duan Ning took a piece of wood from his pocket and handed it to the captain.
Someone carved a line of words on the bark with a short knife: This time they spare their lives, but next time you will collect their bodies!
Looking at the words on the bark, Ouyang Zhuo and the captain of the armed police both twitched their eyelids wildly. Duan Ning took a soda bottle and a beer bottle from a soldier, handed them to the captain, and said, "We dug these out of the minefield before we retreated." ”
Ouyang Zhuo and the captain each grabbed a bottle and examined it carefully. Both bottles were filled with pale yellow liquid, and without being brought to their noses, they could smell a strong gasoline smell, mixed with the distinctive smell of sulfuric acid.
Shaking the soda bottle in his hand, through the pale green body, Ouyang Zhuo could still see some raw rubber in the gasoline that hadn't melted yet. Inside the bottle was a semi-solidified mass formed by some unknown substance. As Ouyang Zhuo gently shook it, that semi-solidified substance twisted and transformed in the gasoline, like colorful paper scraps in a kaleidoscope, rising into all sorts of bizarre shapes.
A small piece of wax had been stuffed into the neck of the bottle, and in the middle was a section of black fire, probably taken from a bullet. At the very front of the soda bottle was a cylinder made of copper sheets. Ouyang Zhuo stared at it in the sunlight for a long time before discovering that inside this copper cylinder, which had a wider bottom and narrower head, was a glass bead strung with silk threads.
The glass bead was probably taken off the necklace, with a hole in the middle just enough to pass through a tough fishing line. Ouyang Zhuo wrapped the line in a filter paper and gently slid it over it. The filter paper was coated with a layer of reddish-brown paste-like substance. Carefully examining its scent, it turned out to be poor-made lipstick.
Zhao Haiping used this inferior lipstick, which might only cost five yuan, to apply it to the fishing line, giving them the simplest yet most practical technical camouflage. He stretched this dirt-like rope across the air, and if not careful, armed police soldiers who were not yet prepared to enter the real battlefield would overlook it.
Ouyang Zhuo and the captain exchanged glances, each seeing the shock in each other's eyes. They walked together, and Ouyang Zhuo lowered his voice: "These seem like two homemade landmines!" ”
The captain nodded and said, "Did you notice? There's a thin layer of chemical powder between the glass bead and the copper ring. If I'm not mistaken, the copper ring and glass bead are already a simple ignition device!" ”
Ouyang Zhuo raised the mine in his soda bottle and said, "Let's see how powerful it is." ”
Ouyang Zhuo hid in a safe spot and pulled the fish shreds in his hand. Suddenly, a burst of white smoke shot from the mouth of the soda bottle. With a loud "boom," a fireball shot into the sky, and as the crimson blossoms scattered like a celestial maiden, the area within four or five meters was instantly engulfed in flames.
The captain said, "Bombs made from glass are naturally less lethal than metal containers. I see that the explosive cartridge made from soda bottles has a maximum blasting coverage diameter of 1.5 meters!" ”
Ouyang Zhuo's expression grew grave as he said, "What's truly frightening is the gasoline Zhao Haiping personally blended!" ”
A group of soldiers rushed forward and set up several dry powder fire extinguishers, but the extinguishing agent sprayed onto the gasoline not only failed to extinguish the flames, but instead burned even more fiercely. Another soldier grabbed a fire extinguisher that could quickly produce carbon dioxide, extinguishing the flames due to lack of oxygen. Just as he aimed the carbon dioxide nozzle at the flames, the flames suddenly shot up more than four feet above the surface.
The concentrated sulfuric acid Zhao Haiping added to gasoline can become a self-contained oxidizer when exposed to external oxygen by dry powder fire extinguishers or fire extinguishers. The magnesium powder and raw rubber he added to gasoline further enhance adhesion during combustion.
Seeing a large group of soldiers fighting and fighting around the flames, using dry powder fire extinguishers and fire extinguishers, yet the flames that splashed onto the ground only slowly died down after all the gasoline and raw rubber had been burned out. Ouyang Zhuo and the captain exchanged glances.
The captain said, "The blasting power of this kind of toy isn't impressive, but its burning and adhesion are a bit too sneaky. Even solid gasoline shells used on the battlefield wouldn't be this exaggerated, right?!" ”
"The explosion is weak, that's a lie. I don't think Zhao Haiping has tried to kill us so much; he just wants us to retreat and not push him to a desperate point." Ouyang Zhuo stared at the beer bottle in the captain's hand and said, "Now he's covered in bullets. Think about what kind of splash effect would occur if he stuffed bullets into these bottles as well." Such mines should at least have a lethal radius of about thirty meters, right? He's also skilled at making directional demolition mines. If you load a dozen rounds, it's basically firing a large-caliber shotgun at the search and capture forces we sent out! ”
Sweat streamed down the captain's forehead with a swish.
Whether it was Ouyang Zhuo or the captain, they both understood that this was no longer just a simple contest between police and criminals—they were facing a true mountain warfare!
Ouyang Zhuo looked at his group of detectives. For the first time, he chose to endure in pursuit of criminals. He could be fearless, willing to risk his life against Zhao Haiping, but he didn't dare take his own brothers into the chase!
The captain also looked at his men. They were all soldiers, and obeying orders was their duty. When they put on these uniforms, they should have been prepared to sacrifice for their country. But he absolutely did not want his men to be dragged around by an enemy of no equal rank, suffering meaningless casualties under traps and landmines.
They could only wait for support on the spot after reporting to their superiors.
Two hours later, another armed police unit arrived to provide support, bringing six military dogs and two mine clearance experts. Seeing the mines made from beer bottles, even the two mine clearance specialists shook their heads and smiled wryly. These things only had tiny copper plates at the mouth of the bottles. Using the outdated mine detectors equipped by the armed police to search for them was better to rely on the sharp sense of smell of military dogs.
Led by two mine clearance experts, the search team split into two groups and advanced into the mountains.
In the end, all six military dogs died at Zhao Haiping's hands. A female officer responsible for searching and taming the dogs had tears in her eyes, clutching her nose as she was punched and even her spine was broken in the middle. The dog lay in her arms, groaning helplessly for a full half hour.
